The acting world is grieving the loss of one of its own.
Song Jae-Lim, a South Korean actor known for his roles in popular TV dramas like Moon Embracing the Sun and Two Weeks, was found dead at his home in Seoul on November 7. He was 39 years old. The news was confirmed by the Seoul Seongdong Police on November 12.
According to reports, the actor was discovered by a friend who had planned to meet him for lunch. The friend arrived around 12:30 p.m. but found Song unresponsive. While the cause of death has not been released, authorities noted that there were no signs of foul play.
Following his passing, Song’s family shared that they would hold a private funeral with only close friends and relatives on November 14.
Song made his acting debut in 2009 in the film Actresses, and his big break came a few years later with a recurring role in Moon Embracing the Sun. Over the years, he became known for his impressive performances in various K-dramas, including The Idle Mermaid (2014), Unkind Ladies (2015), and I Wanna Hear Your Song (2019). His role as Kwon Shi-Kyung in The Idle Mermaid earned him a Soompi Award for Best Actor in 2015.
Beyond scripted shows, Song also made a name for himself on the reality TV series We Got Married, where he appeared alongside actress Kim So-eun. Their “fantasy married couple” dynamic was so well-received that they won a second Soompi Award for Best Couple that same year.
In an interview, Song reflected on his time on the show, explaining how his friendship with Kim helped create a smooth and efficient filming process. “We shared a common goal: finish filming quickly, make enough material, and go home,” he said. “We still have that camaraderie.”
Song Jae-Lim’s passing leaves a significant void in the acting community, and he will be remembered fondly by both his fans and colleagues.
