Batman to Be the First Superhero on Hollywood Walk of Fame: Check Out Other Fictional Characters with Stars

Gotham’s very own Batman is about to leave his mark on Hollywood—literally! The legendary comic book character is getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with a special ceremony set for September 26.

This exciting news comes from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which first started installing stars in 1960 on a small stretch of sidewalk. Since then, the Walk of Fame has grown to cover 1.3 miles in four directions, with Batman’s star being the 2,790th. His star will have a prime spot at the corner of Hollywood and Highland, right in front of the Guinness World Records Museum.

Batman’s star is a big deal for two reasons. First, he’ll be the first superhero ever to receive this honor. Guinness World Records will highlight this achievement during the ceremony, and the placement of his star will reflect that. Second, Batman will join an elite group of just 20 fictional characters who have been awarded a Walk of Fame star. That’s out of a total of nearly 2,800 stars, so this truly is a rare honor.

The Caped Crusader, created by Bob Kane, made his first appearance in Detective Comics back in 1939. Over the years, Batman has become a global icon, famous for his dark persona, his mission to avenge his parents’ deaths, and his role as a nocturnal vigilante. He’s been portrayed by many famous actors, from George Clooney to Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson, and his story has turned into one of the great American myths. As the announcement puts it, “He is vengeance. He is the night. He is Batman.”

DC’s president, Jim Lee, and the company’s SVP, Anne DePies, will attend the ceremony to celebrate the moment.

With Batman breaking the superhero barrier, it seems likely we could see other legendary characters like Superman or Wonder Woman getting their stars next!
