Deadpool is known for pushing boundaries, but there was one moment in Deadpool & Wolverine that went too far—even for Disney, which owns Marvel Studios. At the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York, Ryan Reynolds, who stars in, produces, and co-writes Deadpool, shared that Disney only asked him to remove one line from the entire movie.
When the crowd began wondering what the line could have been, Reynolds quickly shut it down. “No, no, no! And they were right!” he said.
Reynolds then jokingly imitated Disney CEO Bob Iger, saying, “Ryan, this is Bob Iger. We’d really appreciate it if you could take that line out. It’s going to make things tough for us over here.” Reynolds admitted that, despite his initial resistance, thinking, “Must keep the line! Precious!”, he eventually realized it was for the best. “Of course I can take it out. Can I make a Pinocchio joke instead?” he added. And the answer was yes.
Although we’ll likely never know what that particular line was, Deadpool & Wolverine still delivers plenty of outrageous moments, staying true to its R-rated reputation as Disney’s first Marvel movie for adults. Just look at the first trailer, which features jokes about sex toys and recreational drugs. Classic Deadpool!
